Punjab approves Rs 1 billion for Lahore venues ahead of SAG 2027

The Punjab government has approved an estimated Rs 1 billion to upgrade four facilities at Lahore’s Nishtar Park Sports Complex ahead of the 14th South Asian Games (3–11 April 2027).

Lahore is scheduled to host 10 sports. Officials say work on the required venues has already started, with facilities to be brought up to international standard. The figure is an initial estimate — final spending may change as upgrade needs are confirmed on site.

Punjab also rejected a proposal to stage some events at the Narowal Sports Complex, citing accommodation, security and daily transport challenges for international athletes, including Narowal’s proximity to the border.

Reporting around the decision also noted that Islamabad is due to host 15 disciplines, with venue upgrade progress there still a focus for organisers.
