India participation in SAG 2027: what we know so far

India’s place at the 2027 South Asian Games remains one of the most watched storylines around the event.

At the August 2026 SAOC meeting in Islamabad, the Indian Olympic Association took part by video conference — including IOA president P.T. Usha — and endorsed the proposed April dates. Nepal Olympic Committee leaders have said member nations, including India, have repeatedly committed at council level.

Pakistan’s Olympic Association has separately said India agreed in principle to send athletes, with contingent details expected later. International coverage notes that formal travel permission still depends on Indian government policy.

India’s sports policy distinguishes bilateral events (restricted) from multilateral competitions such as the South Asian Games, where participation is generally permitted — but a final green light for the Pakistan-hosted edition has not been publicly confirmed by New Delhi.
