Government backing and funding for South Asian Games 2027

Federal authorities have repeatedly signalled political and financial support for staging the delayed South Asian Games.

Reporting in 2026 noted that the government had given the Pakistan Olympic Association and partners a go-ahead to proceed, with required funds to be released. Mid-year coverage also highlighted a large federal allocation — reported in the order of Rs 11 billion — linked to hosting after a long gap since 2004.

Earlier planning cycles had already earmarked substantial infrastructure spending; the 2026–27 push is framed as completing venues and operations to international standard before April 2027.
